Review of the Jing Gong AU-2G Airsoft Rifle
The AUG (Armee Universal Gewehr - "Universal Army Rifle") is an Austrian 5.56 mm assault rifle, designed in the early 1970s by Steyr Mannlicher & Company. The AUG was designed as a modular, bullpup family of rifles that could be quickly adapted to a wide variety of roles. Bull pup rifles are firearms configured with the action and magazine behind the trigger. This configuration increases the barrel length relative to the overall weapon length, permitting shorter weapons, saving weight and increasing maneuverability. The AUG is a configuration rifle that employs a high level of synthetic and advanced alloy components. The Jing Gong Steyr AUG A2 is a redesigned version of the A1 that boasts a new charging handle and an integrated scope.
Jing Gong's recent release of the AU-1G has been topped by their latest Airsoft Steyr AUG Release: the AU-2G. The AU-2G is also know as Jing Gong airsoft model number JG0449A. Jing Gong Airsoft Gun Company has again created an excellent airsoft TM/CA clone that can be had for under $175USD.
AU-2G Exterior
While it looks like the earlier version, the Jing Gong AU-2G has some surprising differences. First, the body is made of Solid Nylon ABS plastic, and has the feel of the real Steyr AUG composite material. The barrel, scope mount, scope body, upper receiver, sling mounts and gas tube are all metal. The color is an olive/drab grey shade; very close to the real Steyr Aug. The 330-round hicap magazine is the wind-up waffle style, constructed of nylon ABS plastic. Just holding the AU-2G, It is obvious Jing Gong Built it to take a beating on the airsoft skirmish field. The Jing Gong AU-2G comes with an integrated, adjustable 1.5x magnifying scope. The Au-2G scope optics are crystal clear! The scope body has open sites on top if you cannot use the scope in low lighting or CQB scenarios. We have noticed that some of the scopes have tilted cross-hairs out of the box. This is easily fixed with an inside span wrench to turn the scope optics ever so slightly. There is also a collapsible front grip. It's solid, but has a tolerable wobble to it. Pulling back the mock charging handle exposes the Hop-up dial located on the stock. The Hop-up can be accessed on the left or the right, accommodating left-handed and right-handed airsoft players. The Jing Gong AU-2G also sports easy field disassembly into 3 main components (Stock, upper receiver, and barrel assemblies). The Jing Gong Au-2G is approximately 31.5 inches long and weighs in at 7lbs 11oz when empty.
Following the design of the real steel Steyr AUG, this Airsoft Bullpup rifle functions the same way. The safety is a push button type with a red or white dot indicating safe and fire modes. Semi-Automatic fire is accomplished by pulling the trigger half-way. Depressing the trigger all the way switches to full-auto fire. The JG AU-2G chrono'd rate of fire is around 15 rounds per second (900 rpm) using a Guarder 2000 chronograph. The AU-2G comes with an 8.4v 1100mAh mini-battery that fits into the rear of the stock. You might be able to get a 1200mAh battery in there, but it would be tight; there's not much room for battery upgrades. With the included battery we fired four full hi-cap magazines through it before the voltage started to drop off. The fifth magazine drained out the remaining charge. The AU-2G sports a metal Version 3 Gearbox and rubber hop-up. With .2g TSD Tactical BBs we chrono'd the AU-2G between 342 - 351 Feet Per Second (FPS). Accuracy with .2g - .25g BBs was pretty good up to 100-150 feet. We were able to hit a soda can consistently at 150 feet.
Overall, this gun is well worth the investment. Jing Gong Airsoft keeps improving their airsoft offerings with each new product and version. It's no wonder they are rapidly becoming the most popular of the Chinese manufacturers. If you are a fan of Bullpup series or unique European issue rifles, you are going to enjoy owning the Jing Gong AU-2G Airsoft rifle.

I have a Jing Gong AL-45 and it is nothing like the Jing Gong AU-2G. The Jing Gong AU-2G is great! Fires smooth and it has not jammed on me yet. A good product for the airsorft buff. Just make sure to use safety glasses or you could shoot your eye out.
Semper Fi!
i have the same steyr and i have a problem with my trigger. i thinks its jammed, what should i do
Do you know if there is any difference between the AU-1G and this one (AU-2G) apart from the obvoius different scope??
as i was going to get the AU-1G as you can get your own scope for it. Is the scope any good?
is there iron sights on the au-a1 as well as the scope?
The aug a2 is not a very reliable gun. i had to fix it a couple of times after the gun kept on failing on me (the trigger jamming, gearbox breaking) but then, this gun is actually pretty good value, with basically everthing you need out the box. I switched the standard battery to a much better and faster firefox (li po) battery, and now shoots at about 370 FPS. the reliability issues are mostly a design problem, not a quality problem, as the motor is connected to the front on the gun by a rod, which is not as reliable as the M4/M16/416 family, but you are still getting a great gun, that is usually rare in many skimishes as well. it is actually not that balanced, since the motor is at the back, and barrel in front.
I recently bought this gun and i like the accuracy and speed but the firing is not reliable. It'll fire sometimes then won't feed and i have to keep pushing the magazine into the gun in order for it to fire. I brought it back to my dealer and he ordered another one for me. It does the same thing. Is it something to do with the hop-up? please advise.
I recently bought this gun and the only problem is that it consistently has bbs stuck in the barrel and you have to take the barrel out of the gun to fix it. If you could please advise me on how to fix this problem I would really appreciate it
What is the inner bore size? Does it require an upgrade to 6.03?
is this any good for medium to long range sniping?
does the gun shoot fast
does anyone know where to get parts? I have the Steyr AUG AU-2G and it wasn't working so I took it apart and found the gear that is missing. I need a list of the names of the parts of the gun as well if anyone could find one of those?
I know Airsoft have been around for ages but I recently started looking into the sport. I used to play Paintball but this looks like more fun and less messy.
This gun is pretty smart looking.
steve, i am having the same problem, how do u take apart the barrel?
wwwwwwaaaaaawww
hey i got one of those it is so strong it can break through a glass! yeah!
Please, can you show me exactly how to fix the tilted cross hair in the au-2g built in scope? Thanks a million.
what type of gearbox is in the steyr??
my gun only shoots about 50 feet. Sometimes bb's dribble out of the barrel. I've tried adjusting the hop-up. little effect. What can be done?
Problem I have ran into with mine. The backing plate is all that holds the motor and gearbox forward. If its loose it fires but weakly.
If its shooting with no power try tightening the backing plate or putting something on it to hold the motor forward more. Bad design. Still love the gun. Best feeling aeg I've held yet.
can you remove the included scope in favor of a red dot sight? or is it there for good?
how much is it
How time is take to the batterie to charge???
Hey, I recently bought this gun and there are bb's stuck inside the moving parts. I dont know how to get it out...
Im worried it might damage the gun, and im not using bad bb's. Well, people said they were'nt bad, im using Crosman .2g bb's. Could that be the problem? If you have the solution can you tell me really detailed because this is my first gun and I am not very familiar with the parts.
Hey! I have the same problem that the bb's won't feed to the gun properly and I have to take the mag out and put it back in all the time.. Any help here?? I'm considering to buy a new mag (mid-cap) would that help? Respond, please :)
